IntroductionPhysiotherapist is a professional who practices physiotherapy by undertaking comprehensive examination and appropriate investigation, provides treatment and advice to any persons preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement or functional dysfunction, malfunction, disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, using physical modalities including exercise, mobilization, manipulations, electrical and thermal agents and other electro therapeutics for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, health promotion and fitness. The physiotherapist can practice independently or as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and has a minimum qualification of a baccalaureate degree. Physiotherapy is an essential part of the health and community/welfare services delivery system (NCAHP Act, 2021).The role of physiotherapists can be briefly explained as:1. Promoting the health and well-being of individuals and the general public/society, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and exercise.2. Preventing impairments, activity limitations, participatory restrictions and disabilities in individuals at risk of altered movement behaviours due to health or medically related factors, socio-economic stressors, environmental factors and lifestyle factors.3. Modifying environmental, home and work access and barriers to ensure full participation in one’s normal and expected societal rolesAbout Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programmeThe Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is competency-based 5 years program (including one year of internship) following the curriculum released by National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions, on 23. 04. 2025. The program will comprise of theory and practical courses, clinical training, research work and community visits and hospital trainings. The program is affiliated to Mizoram University. Eligibility criteriaPassed higher secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination recognized by the Indian Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology) and English. Passed in all the subjects securing at least 50 % marks in aggregate in PCB. As per the NCAHP admission criteria, the selection process for admission to BPT program shall be based on NEET-(UG).
